Seyonne & Hien & Turu (2009)
I don’t…. remember why I drew this.
For Mandy because…we both had blonde elfy dude characters…? And they’re naked for some reason.  Really, nobody looks particularly happy about the situation.

Green Lady.

I don’t know what kind of bird that is.  But I decided it would make a pretty harpy.

P.S. Bird feet are weird.

EDIT: Mattoid says:

Turaco! Probably Schalow’s or Livingstone’s. The only known kind of bird that is green due to actual pigments in the feathers instead of light interference. :3 They are also known for making the prettiest harpies.

Thanks Mattoid!

Waiting For Mario….’s Surprise Party!
I made this awhile ago… and then for someone’s birthday posted a version with hats.  I think I like the hat version better.

A story about a little girl who loves ponies, and a pony who loves little girls (to drown in rivers).

Proposal art for an animation thing that didn’t happen.

I think this sketchbook page is from when the existence of Tanooki Goombas was revealed to the world.  I was pretty pleased.

Mana Tree progress shots. I can’t remember the last time I painted anything this large or elaborate, but for my bro’s birthday, I wanted to try.  This is pretty much how it went:

Step 1: I can totally do this.

Step 2: Oh god what have I gotten myself into.

Step 3: Well I have to keep going.

Step 4: Repeat step 2 and 3 until done.

Seeking The Mana Tree
I painted this as a surprise birthday present for my brother. It is about 12” x 18” in real life and is (perhaps!) going to hang on the wall in his office. Secret of Mana is a game that we played a lot when we were younger. Like a lot - we would rent it every weekend from the videogame store, and get a little further a little faster each time. We never really even minded starting over. It was always about the journey.  I decided to paint an homage of the title screen, which pretty much just gives me chills every time. So, here we are.  Happy birthday!
May all your adventures find you worthy challenges and strong companions.

Always yes.  k?

Me and Rachel used to joke that it would be hilarious to animate something entirely with your bad hand.  Ha ha.  Well I’m trying to force myself to rest my good hand (left) long enough to kick the RSI that I developed back in January, because physio is getting really cost-prohibitive.  Today I tried drawing a noble rage-filled warrior with my right hand, and this is what happened.
….Go home Tryndamere, you’re drunk.

Me and Jay and some other friends are about to start playing a Pathfinder campaign.  I asked if I could play a centaur Cavalier.  DM considered this very carefully, and then said yes.  We’d found someone who wrote up a custom PC centaur race which treats them as medium creatures that are basically always “mounted”… neat!  Took out a couple things in the original writeup to tone it down a bit more, and it should be in line with the other default races.
——————————————Name:Talliana (Tally)Race: Centaurette (light centaur)Talliana grew up in a Wizard’s Tower. Her father was a mighty Elven wizard, and she loved him.Her entire world was only the Tower, but she had the run of some number of floors and gardens, and various playmates with whom to interact or her Father’s visitors to entertain.  She learned to dance and sing, and even a small amount of fighting skills.  She lived this way for a long time, and was happy.  But what that world seemed to her, as a child, and what it truly was, were not the same, and one day her illusions were cruelly shattered.  She thought she was a beloved daughter- she was just a toy among many, one that could do very amusing tricks.  She thought her Father was a great man, and he was - but not a nice one.  She ran away. Now her life became much harder.  She had thought the World was like the Tower only larger- but the Tower had been a storybook place, and the World was very big and very different.  Outside the Tower she was now a freak and a curiosity.  Her strangeness and naivety led people to scorn, stare at, or take advantage of her. Once very open and fearless, now tending more towards shy and nervous.  She starts at small sounds and occasionally dances about like the young filly she half-resembles.  She has never seen another creature like herself, and never seen a larger “real” centaur.  It did not occur to her to wonder why this was so, until she was on her own.  Is she of a natural breed, are there more like her somewhere in the world?  Or is she a wizard-made construct, a one-of-a-kind flesh and blood homunculus?  Her life within the small inner-world of the Tower now seems like a very cruel joke played upon her.  The World outside can be mean, and people are strange, and she must learn to trust again.Shalelu found her alone one day, and led her to Sandpoint.  The Elven ranger helped her to barter away the wealth she wore in a jingling harness of gold, in order to procure the more useful items she has now.  Talliana idolizes Shalelu for these kindnesses.  She has spent the last few weeks tucked away safely in the inn, lingering in the shadowed corners of the main room, and listening raptly to the songs of Ameiko, the Bard. Perhaps driven by these songs extolling wanderlust and adventure, she had decided to join up with the Caravan.  It might give her the opportunity she needs to to discover her true self, and, more importantly, put a lot of distance between herself and her “Father”.Class: Lv1 Bard (after that, Cavalier) ——————————————-We’re going to be running the Jade Regent adventure path, and so everyone’s story has to kind of tie in with a Caravan that’s about to leave, and with the story NPCs involved with it.  I don’t expect the Caravan Master is going to be terribly thrilled with his recruits…  We’ve got a half-orc brawler who fights with whatever comes to hand, a gnome struck with the travel-bug, a Witch, a ratling gunslinger, and… the littlest centaur.  Somewhere on my character sheet it is going to say “Disguise Checks:  -50. You are a centaur. Don’t even try.”

This page is fun.  Although I think that both Rachel and I look back on dealing with the trangles with a sort of undeserved rosy nostalgia (these pages were all completed over a year ago), because Im pretty sure that both inking and coloring this many tiny silly triangle dudes was a pain in the butt.
